Text Messaging Program

Last Updated: September 22, 2026

Status: pending carrier registration. No outbound program messages are being delivered today. This page describes how it will work once the carriers approve it.

How ranchers opt in — the exact screen and wording

OpenPasture is an AI ranch manager. Most of the work a rancher does happens a long way from a desk, so OpenPasture answers questions and files records over text message. This page describes that program — the OpenPasture Ranch Assistant — in full.

Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies. Reply STOP to cancel. Reply HELP for help.

1. Who the program is for

The program is registered with the mobile carriers and is awaiting their approval. OpenPasture is not sending text messages yet. When approval comes through, it will be open to OpenPasture account holders and to the people they work with on their own ranch. It is not open to the public, it is never sold to a third party, and no number is enrolled by anyone other than the person holding the handset.

These are transactional and operational messages about your own records. We do not send marketing or promotional text messages.

2. What we send, and how often

MessageWhat it isHow often
Morning briefThe day's numbered list for your ranch — what is due, what changed overnight.Once a day, at the time you choose. Off unless you turn it on.
Evening recapWhat was closed today and what rolls to tomorrow. At most once a day. Off unless you turn it on.
Replies to youAn answer to a question you texted, or confirmation that what you texted was filed. One reply per message you send. You start every one of these.
Alerts you switch onA buyer's question, an offer on one of your listings, or an alert you configured in the app.Only on a real event. Typically a few a week.
Linking code confirmationConfirmation that a handset has been linked to your ranch.Once, when you link a phone.

This is a recurring message program. Message frequency varies with how you use it: a rancher who has turned the brief on and texts through the day might see five to ten messages; one who has turned everything off sees none until he texts us first.

We hold anything we started during quiet hours, 9:00 pm to 6:00 am on your ranch's clock. A reply to a text you just sent still comes straight back.

3. How you opt in

Consent is given from the handset itself, in two steps, and a phone number on its own is never treated as proof of who is holding it:

  1. Sign in at openpasture.ai, open Brief settings, enter the mobile number, and agree to receive texts. The page shows you a six-digit code.
  2. Text that code to the OpenPasture number from the handset being linked. The link is created only when that text arrives from that number, and the code expires shortly after it is issued.

Until a handset is linked this way, texts from it are ignored — it cannot read a record and it cannot write one. Carrier keywords are the one exception: STOP, START and HELP are always answered.

Consent to receive text messages is never a condition of buying anything from us.

4. How you stop

  • Reply STOP to any message. We confirm once and send nothing further.
  • Reply START to turn messages back on, or HELP for help and our support address.
  • Or unlink the handset in the app, under Brief settings, which ends the link from our side.

5. Carriers, rates and delivery

Message and data rates may apply — what you pay is between you and your mobile carrier, and OpenPasture does not charge for text messages.

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery depends on your carrier and on coverage, which on a ranch is not a given. Nothing in OpenPasture depends on a text arriving: every record, alert and brief is in the app as well.

6. Your mobile number and your privacy

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing to subcontractors in support services, such as our messaging provider, is permitted. All other use case categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

In plain terms: your number is used to carry your own ranch's messages and for nothing else. We do not sell it, we do not rent it, and we do not hand it to an advertiser. The full policy is in our Privacy Policy.

7. What a text can and cannot do

You can ask a question about your herd, text what you saw and have it filed, close an item on the day's brief, send a photo or a receipt, and answer a buyer's question.

Nothing that commits money or an animal ever happens by bare text. Accepting an offer, countering one, changing a price or recording a sale sends you a link to a screen that shows the terms — a reply of "yes" to a text will not do it.

8. Help and contact

Reply HELP to any message, or write to howdy@openpasture.ai. We answer from that address.
