Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

OpenPasture ("we," "us," "our") operates openpasture.ai. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.

We built OpenPasture for ranchers and we take your privacy seriously — your farm data is yours and we will never sell it.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide:

Account information: name, email address, password
Google sign-in: if you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from your Google account
Sign-up and onboarding requests: name, email address, operation type, and herd size submitted through our sign-up form
Operation information: ranch name, premises ID, species, herd size
Animal records: EID tags, movement records, health records, breeding records
Location information: coordinates you provide when creating marketplace listings or transport routes
Payment information: processed by Stripe — we never see or store your card number

Information collected automatically:

Log data: IP address, browser type, pages visited, time and date
Cookies: session cookies for authentication, preference cookies
Usage data: features used, upload frequency, error logs

3. How We Use Your Information

To provide and improve the Service
To send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset, receipts)
To send product updates and compliance alerts (you may opt out)
To comply with legal obligations

We do NOT use your Farm Data for advertising or sell it to any third party.

4. Sub-Processors

We share data with the following service providers only to the extent necessary to provide the Service:

We do not use advertising networks, data brokers, or analytics services that share your data with third parties.

5. Data Retention

We retain account and Farm Data while your account is active. After cancellation or account closure, you have a 30-day window to request an export or reactivate your account. After that window, or after a verified deletion request, we delete or de-identify Farm Data from active production systems within 30 days. Encrypted residual copies may remain in disaster-recovery backups and are removed through normal backup rotation within 90 additional days. We may retain limited information when required or permitted for legal, tax, accounting, fraud-prevention, security, dispute-resolution, or regulatory purposes.

We retain billing records for 7 years as required by law.

6. Data Export After Cancellation

Export and deletion after cancellation are handled as described in section 5. To request an export, contact howdy@openpasture.ai.

7. Your Rights

All users:

Access: request a copy of all data we hold about you
Correction: correct inaccurate personal information
Deletion: request permanent deletion of your account and Farm Data
Export: request a copy of your Farm Data (individual animal records can be exported in-app; account-wide export is not yet available)

California residents (CCPA):

Right to know what personal information we collect and why
Right to delete personal information
Right to opt-out of sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information)
Right to non-discrimination for exercising privacy rights

EEA/UK residents (GDPR):

Legal basis for processing: contract performance and legitimate interests
Right to data portability
Right to restrict processing
Right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority

8. Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication (required for the Service to function) and preference cookies to remember your settings.

We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.

You may disable non-essential cookies in your browser settings.

9. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information, including encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews.

In the event of a data breach, we will notify affected users within 72 hours.

10. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

11. Mobile Numbers and Text Messaging

If you link a mobile number to your ranch, we store that number, the messages exchanged with it, and a record of when the link was made and by whom. We keep those messages as the audit trail behind any record created from a text.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing to subcontractors in support services, such as our messaging provider, is permitted. All other use case categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

A number is linked only by the person holding the handset, and can be unlinked in the app or by replying STOP at any time. Message and data rates may apply. The program is described in full in our Text Messaging Program disclosure.

12. Changes to This Policy

We will notify you by email at least 30 days before material changes to this policy take effect.
