A listing here is built out of your herd record, not typed into an advert from memory. The buyer sees where each number came from. When the sale closes, the animal's history goes with it — and your private notes and costs stay yours.
Browsing is open to anyone, with no account. Listing an animal and making an offer are part of OpenPasture — the trial is full access, no card required.
Selling
- Pick the animalsChoose them out of your herd. OpenPasture drafts the listing from what is already recorded — weights, dates, breed, location — so you are editing, not typing it out again.
- Read it and publish itEvery listing is created as a draft. Nothing is public until you publish it yourself. Animals that are sold, committed elsewhere, archived or deceased cannot be listed at all.
- Share the linkEach listing gets its own page you can send to a group text, a Facebook group, a sale barn contact or print on a card. It opens for anyone, with no account.
- Answer, agree, hand offQuestions and offers come to you in the app — and by text if you have turned that on. When you accept one, the animal's record transfers to the buyer.
Buying
- Browse and compareSearch what is listed, save the ones worth a second look, pass on the rest, and put two side by side.
- Ask before you offerQuestions go to the seller in a thread that stays attached to the listing.
- Offer, or counterOffers and counters keep their full history — amount, note and time — and nothing is rewritten. One offer can be accepted, and the moment it is, the others close as superseded rather than pretending they were turned down.
- Take the record with the animalWhen a sale completes, the animal's history moves to you: identity, weights, breeding and health events. The seller's private notes, costs, GPS traces and staff names do not come with it.
What OpenPasture does, and what it does not
A label on a listing tells you its source. "System record" means OpenPasture observed it — a completed sale, a stored measurement. "Seller provided" means someone typed it, and we have not checked it. The full criteria are published on the marketplace standards page.
We do
- Show where every claim on a listing came from — what OpenPasture observed itself, and what the seller typed.
- Keep the animal's recorded history with the animal when it changes hands.
- Refuse a listing for an animal that is already sold, committed or gone.
- Take reports, review listings, and remove what breaks the rules.
We do not
- Inspect, test or guarantee the health, condition or fitness of any animal.
- Verify a seller's identity, brand inspection or paperwork.
- Hold money, handle payment between buyer and seller, or provide escrow.
- Arrange, insure or supervise transport.
Buyer and seller deal with each other directly. Inspect the animal, agree your own terms of payment and haul, and use your own vet and brand inspection as you would at any sale.
What a buyer can see, and what stays yours
A published listing shows only fields chosen for publication. Private treatment notes, what an animal cost you, GPS locations, raw device readings, your pasture and staff names, and everything about your other animals are not part of a listing and are not part of a transfer. When ownership moves, the buyer receives a projection of the animal's record — not a copy of your books.
Report a listing from the listing itself. Reports are read, and a listing that breaks the rules is removed from search and from every public link.
